St. Jerome in his Study by Jan van Eyck

Saint Jerome (died 420 AD) is the patron saint of translators. His Latin translation of the Bible, called the Vugate, was the official text for 16 Centuries. You can read  it online: www.biblestudytools.com/vul/ I always envied him his library and the well behaved kitty kat that didn't jump up on the table when he was trying to  read.

I didn't really know Jan van Eyck personally although we ran into each
other at a wedding reception once.
